The intent is for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS to continue on, to evolve, and to do what we do… make music!” Two singers have hinted that they may be finalists for the open frontman position in STONE TEMPLE PILOTS.According to The Pulse Of Radio, auditions begin in Los Angeles on April 18 and STP has. In announcing the auditions, the members of STP wrote, “No one will ever ‘replace’ Scott that was never the intent. STP began a search for a new vocalist following the departure late last year of Chester Bennington, who joined the band in early 2013 following Weiland‘s exit.īennington ended his time with STP in order to concentrate on his main act, LINKIN PARK, as well as spend more time with his family.īennington recorded one EP with the band, “High Rise”, and did a handful of tours during his tenure. You know, we had the fortune of being in a band with one of the greats - twice! You know, Chester included. The LINKIN PARK singer joined STP in May 2013 after the famed alt-rock group fired Scott Weiland, who helped found the band in 1985.Bennington and STP released the five-song High Rise EP in October of that year. This person has to be really, really great. Chester Bennington says that he is longer fronting STONE TEMPLE PILOTS because he wanted to make his family more of a priority. You know, I promise you one thing: we’re not gonna settle. We just want one! So Robert and Eric and I are definitely up for the task and we’ll see what we come up with. In 2017 the band held an audition and they chose Jeff Gutt as their new. The band then had a short stout with singer Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) that lasted two years. “We’ve received an outlandish amount of people sending stuff in,” he said. Stone Temple Pilots (STP) started with brothers Dean Deleo (guitar) and Robert Deleo (bass), drummer Eric Kretz and singer Scott Weiland. Guitarist Dean DeLeo spoke about the response to the open call. The surviving band members posted on the official STP web site that they’ve been listening to “thousands” of submissions with more to go.

Many of the musicians who posted audition tapes also paid tribute to late lead singer Scott Weiland, who was dismissed in 2013 and who died on his tour bus this past December while on a solo tour. Kretz stated that the band aimed to capture a more modern take on Stone Temple Pilots music while retaining the elements of their prior work at the same time.According to The Pulse Of Radio, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have completed their online open audition submissions for a new singer.

Rolling Stone described the track as a "churning hard rocker. Gutt's vocals are described as having a deep, nasal-toned quality to them, sounding similar to Weiland without sounding like an exact clone. Gutt's ability to write the lyrics and melody of the song, alongside a few other songs, is what made the band decide that he should be the new lead singer.

Gutt was able to come up with the vocal melody on the spot, and was able to write the songs later down the road. The song was presented to Gutt as part of the auditioning process the band played him the song, and he was tasked, on the spot, to see what he would do with the song. The song's instrumental track was originally written by the band's remaining original members - guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, and drummer Eric Kretz - prior to Gutt's audition for the band in September 2016. A lyric video was released a month later, on December 15, 2017. The song is the lead single from the band's seventh studio album, which was released on March 16, 2018. The song was debuted live, at Gutt's first concert with the band, on November 14, 2017, at a private, invite-only show, with the studio recording of the song being released the following day. According to The Pulse Of Radio, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS have completed their online open audition submissions for a new singer. "Meadow" is the first Stone Temple Pilots song to feature new singer Jeff Gutt, who was chosen by the band out of 15,000 applicants after the year spanning search for a new singer after the departures and deaths of prior vocalists Scott Weiland and Chester Bennington.
